Program Introduction

This academic year program is hosted at Shanghai Normal University (SHNU).  Students take business and Chinese language courses in the first semester, and take part in full time internship in the second semester, and complete a project report under the supervision of an internship supervisor. There will also be industrial site visits and cultural activities arranged. Students may live in campus dormitories, off-campus apartments, or live with Chinese families.

About Shanghai Normal University

Shanghai Normal University is one of the most important universities in Shanghai that specialize in education related research and teaching. Because of its strength in teaching Chinese as a foreign language, it has a large enrollment of international students. The university has established links with about 228 universities and educational institutions in 32 countries and regions. SHNU is also sponsoring three Confucius Institutes overseas (in Japan, Botswana and US). Located not far from the Xujiahui commercial center in Shanghai, SHNU has a beautiful campus and a less crowded neighborhood, making it an ideal place to live and study for international students.

Chinese Language courses of speaking, writing, reading, etc, totally 10 credits

Chinese Culture, 36 hours of instruction, 3 credits

Marketing in China, 36 hours of instruction, 3 credits

Chinese Trading & Investment, 36 hours of instruction, 3 credits

Chinese Finance Market, 36 hours of instruction, 3 credits

Chinese Law and Politics, 36 hours of instruction, 3 credits

China Business Law & Practice, 36 hours of instruction, 3 credits

Cross-culture Field Study, 12 hours of instruction, 1 credit

Industry Tour, 12 hours of instruction, 1 credit

Internship Project, 10 credits

 

Internship option is available for academic year program only, and it must be in the second semester. Students who choose the internship option will need to complete an internship project report according to required guidelines.

 

Program Activities and Features 

Online pre-departure and onsite orientations, airport pickup

Five-day excursion to Beijing and Xi'an or other destinations each semester

Instructors and Transcript

Courses are taught by SHNU instructors, and official English transcripts will be issued by SHNU. English syllabi and detailed information about the courses are available for credit transfer purpose.

Housing and Meals 

Students may live in double room on-campus international student dormitories, or hotels affiliated with the university, or live with Chinese families. In the dormitories and hotels, each room has a desk, a TV set, a bathroom, an air-conditioner, and linens. Internet is available for a reasonable fee. In host family, student will have his or her own room, and food is covered.  SHNU will also issue each student a campus card, with which students can dine at the university student cafeterias for about 10-15 RMB (1.5-2.4$) per meal. Many international students also choose to eat at the restaurants near the campus, with about 20-30 RMB (3-5$) per meal.

 

Program Fee:  $10,800 each semester, $19,950 per academic year, which covers tuition and room for the semester(s) indicated on SHNU calendar (each semester is about 4.5 months), and the Program Activities and Features listed above, as well as other services listed in the TCE Service Agreement for this program.
