Summer High School Program in Shanghai

Program Date: June 25 - July 24, 2016                                                                                                  

Program Introduction

This Chinese Language program is for

international youth (13-18 years old) is primarily organized by the No. 2 High School of East China Normal University, with support from TransChina Education and the Chinese Language Teachers Association of Greater New York. 

 

The program is partially taught in a suburban community with students living at host families, and partially taught on campus of a prestigious high school in Shanghai. 

 

Students will be placed into different levels of language classes, and the course content will be equivalent to one semester's of Chinese in a US high school.  Students will receive transcript from the host school.  Students will take Chinese classes in the morning, and have individual tutorial and culture activities in the afternoon or evening. There will also be activities or excursions on weekends. During the community based study period, each student will live with a host family, and attend classes in a communal house with classrooms. Host families will be within 5-15 minutes walk from each other.  Various interactive activities will be arranged in the community to ensure students have an althentic experience with local

kids and residents. 

 

During the campus study period, students will meet other international students, and will take classes in the morning and participate in group activities in the afternoons and on weekends. The host school , the 2nd High School of East China Normal University is one of the top few high schools in Shanghai.

It is located in the reknown High Technology Park area, with a spacious campus, comprehensive gym and other sports facilities, and convenient public transportation to downtown areas. Students will live in the school's dormitory.  

 

Faculty in charge: Ms Louise Lin, Chinese Teacher at Shanghai American School. Ms Lin received two Masters degrees (Teaching Chinese, International Education) respectively from East China Normal University and Plymouth State University in US. She currently teaches high school Mandarin at Shanghai American School, including IB and AP courses. Louise had previously taught at major international programs in Shanghai for several years. As the faculty leader for the summer 14 program, Ms. Louise will coordinate the Chinese teaching, such as level placement, coordinating a team of instructors and tutors, and lead student activities.

 

 

Program Contents 

Small size Chinese language classes and private tutorials (there will be about 1-5 students each class)

Pre-departure and onsite orientations, airport pickup and delivery

Weekend excursion to the Sanqing Mountain in Jiangxi

Site visits in Shanghai, welcome and farewell banquets

Interactive activities in Chinese community.

Housing and Meals

At host family, each student will have his or her own room,

with access to kitchen and washing machine. Meals are

provided.  During the campus study period, students will live in double or triple room in the international student dormitory, and eat at the campus cafeteria.

Each room has a desk, V set, bathroom, air-conditioner, blankets and linens. Free Internet is available. There will be free washing machine and dryers, and paid laundry service as well.

 

Program Fee: $3,595, which covers tuition, room and meals, scheduled activities and excursions, etc.  Students need to pay their own air tickets.  TCE will assist students to get group rate air tickets.
